The Second National United Nations Knowledge Competition for College Students was Held in Beijing
On June 2, 2018, the Second National United Nations Knowledge Competition for College Students, co-hosted by the United Nations Association of China (UNA-China) and Beijing International Studies University (BISU), was held at Beijing International Studies University. Amb. Lu Shumin, President of UNA-China, Ms. Claire Courteille-Mulder, Director of the ILO China and Mongolia Bureau, and Ms. Zhu Peifen, Vice President of BISU addressed the Opening Ceremony. Ms. Zhang Dan, Vice-President and Director-General of UNA-China, served as team leader of the judging panel for the final. During the competition, the National Universities’ Seminar on UN Teaching was also held.
Amb. Lu Shumin pointed out that China will support the UN in order to promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. China’s participation in global governance requires a large number of international talents with interdisciplinary knowledge. The Competition provides a platform for young students to learn about UN knowledge and ideas. Ms. Claire Courteille-Mulder stressed that China is an important supporter for the UN and multilateralism. The Competition helps Chinese students to enhance their understanding of the UN and foster a spirit of cooperation, which will benefit China’s participation in international governance. Ms. Zhu Peifen said that training international talents is the fundamental task of Beijing International Studies University. By cooperating with the UNA-China, the BISU aims to promote the researching and teaching activities of the UN.
More than 70 participants from 20 selected universities across the country attended the competition. After intense competition, Beijing International Studies University won the Grand Prize. China Foreign Affairs University and Beijing Language and Culture University won the First Prize. Tianjin Foreign Studies University, Henan University, Qingdao University, China University of Political Science and Law, and the Second Team of China Foreign Affairs University won the Second Prize.
