The 12th Internet Governance Forum Opens: Shape Your Digital Future
The 12th Internet Governance Forum, with ¡°shape your digital future!¡± as its theme, opened in Geneva, Switzerland, on December 18th. Under-Secretary General of the United Nations economic and social affairs, Liu Zhenmin, together with Zhao Houlin, Secretary General of International Telecommunication Union (ITY), attended this forum.
In Mr. Liu Zhenmin¡¯s speech at the ceremony, he says that according to UNSDG 9, information and communication technology is an important means of achieving sustainable development goals. It is essential to disseminate the information and communication technology, so as to provide internet service to the least developed countries at the low price no later than 2020. He believes that the Forum will be conducive to achieve this goal, and make contribution to a sustainable digital future.
Mr. Zhao Houlin says that cooperation, coordination, and collaboration made the core of achieving 2030 agenda for sustainable development, the ITU will address the challenges and opportunities together with the international community.
The annual Internet Governance Forum has been held since 2006. It focuses on issues concerning internet governance and provides a platform for exchanges and consultations between governments, private sectors and academia.
