Vice-President Zhang Dan Attended WFUNA Executive Committee Meeting
Ms. Zhang Dan, Vice-President and Director-General of UNA-China, attended the 216th Executive Committee Meeting of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) in New York on 8-10 June 2017. This was her first time to attend the Executive Committee meeting in the capacity of ExCo Member. Ms. Zhang commended the cooperation between UNA-China and WFUNA and joined discussions with other ExCo Members on the agenda items.
Before the meeting, Ms. Zhang paid visits to Mr. Wu Hongbo, UN Under-General for Economic and Social Affairs, Mr. Maher Nasser, UN Acting Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications and Public Information and other UN officials. She met Mr. Andrew Tomlinson, Representative and Director of Quaker UN Office, Ms. Tatiana Carayannis, the Social Science Research Council¡¯s Deputy Director of the Conflict Prevention and Peace Forum, and Mr. Bruce Knotts, Chair of the Executive Committee of Non-governmental Organizations Associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information as well as some Chinese UN high-ranking officials and former students of International Civil Servants Capacity Building Training Programme. Mr. Zhang briefed them the recent work of UNA-China. She pointed out that UNA-China is a NGO exclusively devoted to supporting UN. She expressed the wish to further strengthen cooperation with UN agencies and related NGOs in Knowledge dissemination and research. Ms. Zhang also presented views of Chinese civil society and academia on issues such as peacekeeping, peace-building and sustainable development. She emphasized that all the 17 Sustainable Development Goals should be viewed as a whole with equal importance, while poverty alleviation listed at first is the most urgent and important task.
