UNA-China Led China Universities Model UN Team to Participate in the 21st AMUNC 2015
From June 28th to July 5th, at the invitation of the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC), Director of the Secretariat of United Nations Association of China (UNA-China) Yan Liang led a China Model UN team, consisting of 12 teachers and students from Northwestern Polytechnical University, Sichuan University and Sichuan International Studies University, to attend the 21st Asia-Pacific Model United Nations Conference in Perth, Australia (AMUNC 2015). The International Director of Australia Human Rights Commission David Robinson and project officer Elsa Chen accompanied.
During the conference, the China Model UN team made careful preparation, actively participated in in-depth discussions with AHRC officials and participating students, making effective contribution to promoting the conference process, drawing wide attention and commendation from the organizing committee and the Australian Human Rights Commission. Huang Qinguo, Chinese Consul General in Perth, met with the team members and briefed them on the Sino-Australian relations, the situation in Western Australia and the work of the Consulate General. He expressed appreciation at the outstanding performance of the students in the Conference and encouraged them to broaden international horizon through this conference, master the approaches to deal with problems and improve the level of international studies. The Chinese Central Television (CCTV) Australian station reporters came to conference to interview team members on their participation and about the significance of Model UN activities.
The AMUNC 2015 was organized by the University of Western Australia. It attracted nearly 600 student delegates, was consisted of 23 committees, covering a number of issues such as anti-terrorism, food crisis, green economy and etc. Mayor of Perth, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Western Australia, former Australian Foreign Minister and other distinguished guests attended the conference to deliver speeches or teach courses.
