2015 will be the deadline for realization of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The United Nations is planning to launch a Post-2015 International Development Agenda which will be a guiding document for the international development after 2015. UN has started the consultation process in 50 countries including China to collect information about the implementation of MDGs and suggestions for making Post-2015 International Development Agenda in the hope of making contributions to the negotiation among governments to be held in the second half of next year. UNA-China as the partner of UNDP in China conducts the National Consultation Project on Post-2015 International Development Agenda in China and will put forward a report on recommendations for priority areas of Post-2015 International Development Agenda. The Yunnan event is an important part of this project.
During the seminar, four topics related to MDGs were discussed. They were poverty-alleviation, education, environment-protection and health. The participants reviewed the progress and achievements made in the four areas, identified challenges still facing China and made recommendation for the priority areas of Post-2015 International Development Agenda for China. The meeting holds that China has made tremendous achievements in the implementation of MDGs, contributing a great deal to the realization of MDGs worldwide. Meanwhile, China still faced big challenges. Post-2015 International Development Agenda should be based on the achievements of MDGs, and taking into consideration of new changes.
