History of Trilateral Presidents Meeting of UNA-China, UNA-Japan and UNA-ROK and China-Japan-ROK Youth Forum
History of Trilateral Presidents Meeting of UNA-China, UNA-Japan and UNA-ROK and China-Japan-ROK Youth Forum
At the joint initiative of the United Nations Association of China (UNA-China), Japan (UNA-Japan) and Republic of Korea (UNA-ROK) , the three UNAs held symposiums on UN issues in Beijing in 2005 and in Seoul in 2007, which were pilot projects for future trilateral cooperation.
In September 2010, the UNA-Japan hosted the first Trilateral Presidents Meeting of the United Nations Associations of China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea (hereinafter referred to as “the Meeting”) in Tokyo with the participation of the President of WFUNA, and the first China-Japan-ROK Youth Forum (hereinafter referred to as “the Forum”) was also held as a parallel event. The two events aimed at promoting dialogue and enhancing understanding among people of the three countries, especially among the youths.
Up to now, seven Trilateral Presidents Meetings and Youth Forums were held in the three countries in rotation. The Trilateral Presidents Meeting has become the annual cooperation mechanism for the three UNAs for exchanging views on UN and multilateral issues. The Youth Forum has become the platform for the youth to build consensuses and strengthen cooperation through participating in Model United Nations Conferences, Youth Symposiums and cultural activities.
In September 2011 and in September 2014, UNA-China hosted the second and fifth Trilateral Presidents Meetings in Chengdu and Xi’an and Youth Forums at Sichuan University, and Northwestern Polytechnical University.
