East Asian Seminar on United Nations Studies
It is an annual trilateral mechanism for cooperation and exchange in the field of UN research among China, Japan and Republic of Korea. CANUNS represents China at the seminar with UNA-China as the coordinator. Japan and ROK are represented by Japan Association for UN Studies (JAUNS) and Korea Academic Council on the UN System (KACUNS) respectively. Participants, who are mostly from first-class research institutions, former diplomatic practitioners and UN officials in three countries, exchange their latest UN research findings.
Actually the trilateral mechanism used to be the bilateral one between Japan and Korea and ten seminars had been held till the formal joining of CANUNS in 2011. Ms. Zhang Xiaoan, Vice-President & Director-General of UNA-China was invited to attend the seminar twice in 2010 and 2011 respectively.
CANUNS will host the 12th East Asian Seminar on UN Studies on 20-21 December 2012, in cooperation with Renmin University. The theme of the seminar is Global Governance and East Asia cooperation in the UN and thematic topics as globalization, follow-up of Rio+20, dialogue among civilizations and regional conflicts in Middle East etc. will be dealt with.
