China Academic Net for UN Studies (CANUNS)
With a view to integrating research on the United Nations in China, UN Association of China decides to steer the establishment of China Academic Net for UN Studies (CANUNS).
As called for by the new situation and many new problems and new challenges facing China in UN and other multilateral fields, this mechanism aims to guide, plan and organize thematic studies, and to provide forward-looking, feasible policy recommendations for government decision-making and work at diplomatic frontline. Externally, the mechanism is set to conduct communication and cooperation with multilateral academic institutions in other countries, so as to track and study the latest trends of UN reform and development of other multilateral mechanisms.
The inaugural meeting of CANUNS was held at the headquarter of UNA-China on March 9, 2011. Chen Jian, President of UNA-China presided over the meeting. Yang Wenchang, President of Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs addressed the ceremony. Chen Xu, Director-General of Department of International Organizations and Conferences of Ministry of Foreign Affairs lectured on the current international situation. Honorary President Jin Yongjian, Vice President Chen Shiqiu, Vice President and Director-General Zhang Xiaoan of UNA-China, and scholars from a number of prestigious Chinese universities and academic institutes attended the ceremony. The meeting witnessed some agreements with regard to the future growth of CANUNS.
