On October 24th, 2011, United Nations System in China and UNA-China co-hosted the Reception for the 66th Anniversary of the founding of the United Nations in Fangfeiyuan, Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. Mr. Wu Hailong, Assistant Foreign Minister, Mr. Tokayev, Under-Secretary-General of the UN and the Director-General of the United Nations Office in Geneva, Ambassador Li Daoyu, Honorary President of UNA-China and Ms. Renata Dessallien, UN Resident Coordinator in China attended and addressed the reception. Ms. Zhang Xiaoan, Vice President and Director General of UNA-China also attended the reception at invitation.

The reception began with a video of Secretary-General Ban Kae-Moon delivering anniversary remarks. He stressed that as the most universal, representative and authoritative international organization, the UN plays a prominent role in addressing global issues. Tokayev put an emphasis on the efforts the UN has made in maintaining world peace and security, promoting development, human rights and international legislation. Values of tolerance, mutual respect and human dignity the UN has been pursuing are enduring ideas that mellows with time. The United Nations will live up to the trust of people worldwide, and will enhance multilateral cooperation and facilitate global development at a time with globalized challenges. He pointed out five highlights of the work of the UN hereafter, and spoke highly of the relationship between China and the UN.

Mr. Wu Hailong highly evaluated the functions of the UN, and elaborated an insightful opinion on how the UN can continue playing a core role in world affairs and how to further develop the relationship between China and the UN.

Ambassador Li positively evaluated the functions of the UN, and illustrated the mutual influence that the UN and China have on each other. He stressed that the UN belongs to all of us. It is not only a platform to serve national interests, but also to address global issues and serve the benefits of people all over the world.

The reception also received special support from Ms. Wu Shuqing, Executive Director of UNA-China.
